MacBook Pro clock shows incorrect time

My new MacBook Pro does not display the correct time when set automatically; its an hour behind. When set it manually, incoming emails are timed an hour behind the correct time. The time zone setting is correct (UK). Can anyone help me please?

Thanks for your reply. There is no BST checkbox. It should display on time zone, 'BST' but the space is blank and below it displays 'GMT'.

I've found the time & date file:

system/library/preferencepane/Dateandtime.prefpane

It's a 2.7MB file. Do you have any idea whether it would be ok to copy the file from the old mac and paste it in the new one?

Thanks for the advice. I reset the SMC but it's had no effect. Each time I set the time zone to BST, when I log out/switch off, it reverts to GMT, so the times are out.

Move the version in the Preferences folder to the desktop and restart. The OS will create a fresh one. Try that. If that doesn't help, try overwriting it with the one from your old computer.

Nothing worked so I phoned Apple under the 90 day support warranty. Went through all the things suggested like SMC PRAM etc. Eventually they sent me to Finder/Go/Go to Folder/private/etc/localtime folder. Dragged the localtime folder into the bin and restarted. It worked! Thanks for your support folks.

I can't find the folder you're referring to. Spotlight doesn't find anything called "localtime," either. Could you give more specific information about the folder's location? I have exactly the same problem (although I'm using a network time server, and you don't mention whether you're using this or not).

Found an alias called "localtime" and deleted it, but that didn't help. It does look as if I'm getting GMT, but the time zone shown in the date/time panel is the correct one (EST w/daylight option).

Are you using BootCamp by any chance?
I have always had this issue when I boot back into OS X from BootCamp. It would then correct it self about 30mins later when it checked with the time server.
