CharlesSoft-Pacifist

Has anyone ever used CharlesSoft-Pacifist shareware to breakup the Safari package.
I need to reinstall the WEBkit 321 from Safari 1.2.3

eMac, Mac OS X (10.3.x)

Yes. I did it this way (copied form another thread):

Ok, I managed to answer my own question about making software update happy. I guess I didn't fully understand the procedure for using Pacifist (which I just purchased - http://www.charlessoft.com/). What I just did was to use Pacifist to open the Safari3.2.3Leo.pkg that I downloaded from Apple at http://support.apple.com/downloads/Safari3_2_3_forLeopard. Click on the Resources tab. Inside the Safari3.2.3Leo.pkg, there is another Safari3.2.3Leo.pkg (? don't ask me). Open that (click on the triangle) to see Payload. Select Payload and click Extract To. Select a spot and remember where you put it. Either drag the resulting file (also named Payload) to the Pacifist window, or use the open command. Select Contents of Payload and click install. Say yes to all the Replace warnings; I did this as admin.

Now all the original 3.2.3 files are back in place and apparently the receipt is fixed because if I run Software Update it offers to install 4.0.2. I declined at this time, but will want to update when they get the problems fixed. That may take a while, there seem to be many.

Worked for me, use at your own risk.

BTW none of this fixes my problems with Audible (pages never finish loading) or eBay (Page not responding errors). Maybe these are Java problems? I will be using Firefox until this is fixed, although I prefer Safari.

My Macmail and Safari were not working because I downloaded Safari 3.1 to Panther.
I was able to solve this problem without CharlesSoft-Pacifist.

Macmail and Safari are working now. I downloaded Safari 1.2 from the Apple website via Firefox to the desktop. Then I went to the System folder, Opened the Library folder, and then Opened the Framework folder.
Then I put the WEBKIT framework folder in the trash. Then I installed the Safari 1.2. I restarted my Mac and the the Macmail and Safari are working again.
The WEBKIT has been replaced with the original WEBKIT when I installed the Safari 1.2. It is important not to trash the WEBKIT until you have the downloaded Safari 1.2 on the Desktop, because you can not download with Firefox if the WEBKIT is in the Trash.

I have to thank Bob Wood's link for writing how to delete the WEBKIT.

I know that many people have had this problem with downloading Safari 3.1 to Panther. The best advice is don't do it.
If you do have this problem, this is a pretty simple way to fix Safari and Macmail.
