iPod Touch apps will not open (through no fault of my own)

I'm really starting to get frustrated. I just got my new iPod Touch 2 days ago. I loved it. However, today I tried opening several of my apps but they won't open.

1. I tried connecting the iPod back to iTunes to see if they just didn't synchronize correctly... didn't work.

2. I tried to reset all settings in the settings menu... didn't work.

3. Tried resetting the iPod by holding the sleep and home keys... didn't work.

The last option is to delete all the apps and download them again, which I don't want to do. I feel like of I have to download them again after 2 days, then how many more times will this happen? (Understand what I mean?)

The music and video playback is fine, but if this was all I wanted, I would have saved $150 and bought an iPod Classic.

I'm sure this problem has a reasonable solution that doesn't involve deleting or re-installing anything. I'm just hoping that one of you know what that solution is.

Hope you can help me.

Thank you for your time.

OK, just spoke to tech support, they say to
-download the os software again (or upgrade to 3.0)
-make sure any apps bought from the ipod has been backed up
-install the software
-restore, and then the option will be to restore from backup or create a new ipod.

Here's the key: chose new ipod!

I'll be trying this once I get the software downloaded (bummer, one can't pause the download but have to restart the download if stopped)

My iPod Touch has version 3.0 software and has been operating perfectly through yesterday. When I turned it off last night, the shut-down took much longer than normal. Today, when I turned it back on, only the Apple, factory installed apps would open. All other, downloaded apps, would attempt to open, then would immediately close.

I also followed the same directions you did from the Apple site, minus a reinstall of software, and it didn't do anything. I then connected to my computer, and resynched through iTunes normal procedure, and all the add-on apps are now functioning perfectly. (At least for the moment) However, I believe you had stated that you had tried this early on and it didn't work for you.

I appreciate your sharing the steps suggested by Apple Tech Support, in case I encounter a future problem.

Well, the issue appears to continue, me & my friend are having the same issue. I bought my Touch 3 months back, was at 2.2.1 version on the software. My apps included Spore, Yelp, Tip Master, Koi Poind, Afraid, Asphalt 4 and some others. For the past 3 months, everything has worked fine. I conducted no updates or Apple software updates. Last week, all apps stopped opening as did all music videos.

What's more interesting is several apps disappeared of my Touch screen, don't know why.

So, in my case, it's not a incompatibility issue or apps update requirement. I held onto 2.2.1 because the 3.0 update (which I paid for) killed my last Touch; literally it died, that's why I got the new one Yesterday, I thought I'd update to 3.1.2 (free now) thinking it would open my apps & music videos, no success. Today, I did the regularly Apple updates, including iTunes 9.0. I tried to open apps & videos, no success.

I tried unstalling the apps/videos via unchecking them in iTunes during a sync. That removed from the Touch. Then I re-checked the apps & videos to sync and performed a sycn. All the apps did return to the Touch screen. Yet, I still cannot open any apps or music videos.

It just seams wrong one would have to restore the Touch to solve this. I really like my Mac and the Mac world, but in my short years with Macs I've had my

-13" macbook harddrive die at 6 months
- 2nd hard drive died in 3 months
- 1st mouse died at 4 months
- blue screen of death issue 2 mos - current, even with new drives
- USB/AC Adapter up in flames, recalled & replaced
- crash of operating system at 10 mos, reinstalled by Genius Bar
- 1st Gen iPod Touch died at 3 months, but replaced by Apple Care Plan
- 2nd Gen iPod Touch died after 3.0 update, replaced by Apple Care Plan
- now the current issue.

Despite this, I'm trying to hang in there, but seriously, I have some great PCs going on 5 years and they have never had an issue. My sister is a Machead and her 10 year old Macs are still kicking with no issues

One has to ask, what is going on. Yet, I'll leave that for another universe. So, hoping someone has a fix suggestion on this particular issue.

Okay, update from my end.

I did a restore of my Touch. When I restored, I had the choice of "set up as new iPod" or restore from my old iPod Touch. When I clicked on my old iPod name, and hit the scroll arrow to the side, it opened and there were 4 options; previous back ups. I chose my iPod name from August 8, 2009 and restored using that.

After the restore, sync, etc., all music videos & apps are reloaded, working, and my software is 3.1.2.

So, I can't say why the apps & videos wouldn't open after working for several months, but as others have suggested, try restore. However, when given the choice to "set up as new iPod" in iTunes or restore to your previous, click on the scroll where your old iPod is listed, see how many you may have in the history, and pick one a couple months back.

Hopefully this will help some of you out there.

2 days into owning an ipod touch all apps start and close immediately. For all those who have a bias against Microsoft products, let's find any Microsoft software or operating system that does something similar.

Having worked for large companies running thousands of PCs all managed centrally with hundreds of mission critical applications and seeing the percentage of failures, I have new found respect for the programmers at Microsoft. Imagine corporate emails suddenly not working one fine day (Exchange) or the complexity of code in Sharepoint - and Apple can't deliver solid code in their teeny OS for the ipod?

Apple should rethink their ad campaign and bow to the programmers at Microsoft. Nice gadget, but am glad that Apple doesn't have a footprint in my enterprise software suite - I would have been fired a long time ago.

Googling this app crash problem, I am seeing that it is prevelant, un-solved for over a year and hacks exist that sometimes make it work. And they say Microsoft is evil?

OK, I had this problem - brand new iTouch 3G - updated to 3.1.2 and immediately all my downloaded apps would "open" and then close a split second later. I tried all the trouble shooting, even "downgraded" to 3.1.1. I even restored to the earliest backup I had done. The ONLY thing that worked was to do a full restore, and to restore to "new iPod". It worked. My apps are back now. Only problem is you lose your settings but this finally solved this problem for me.
