I can't get Master Templates working in FCP 7. I see the templates if I browse them, I can load them up in Motion no problem. But if I try and view them in the viewer, or add them to the timeline, they come up white. I have uninstalled and reinstalled FCP 7 3 times today now, and can't seem to figure out why this feature doesn't work. I've trashed preferences, everything I can think of. Anyone else having this issue?

If the tempalte works in Motion, the media is good. A white display in the FCP viewer usually indicates an alpha issue, either your browser is set to show alpha only or the clip is being misinterpreted by FCP.
I have the same problem here. I initially installed as an upgrade over the top of FCS2 when I noticed the problem. I just finished a clean install, but have the same problem. All I get is a white picture from any of the Master Templates in FCP7. They all work fine in Motion opening the motion project file, and the thumbnail movies work and even show up in FCP7 when go to Sequence Menu > Add Master Template. But when I add it - all white. I've been through all of the Modify > Composite Mode and Modify > Alpha settings with no changes.
My templates turns to weird scrambled multi color when viewing them using viewer. They turn white in the Canvas. I'm trying to figure out what's happening to FCP7 with all the white video issues. Regular videos turn white as well and its not because of RGB-Alpha settings. Color, QT and all Pro apps can recognize the videos and it's just FCP7 having issues. FCP6 before the upgrade worked just fine.
Exactly the same here. It happened once before during an upgrade and I found the answer somewhere but can't, for the life of me, find it now. It did not require a complete re-install as I recall.
After upgrading from FCS2 to the current studio, All video placed in Final Cut Pro or Motion shows up as either black or white, sometimes with a few small color artifacts- as if the contrast had been turned up to maximum. This issue affects even the bars and tone generator in Final Cut Pro. Audio is unaffected.
I removed all installed files and receipts and reinstalled, issue is still occurring. I've also updated to 10.5.8 and run Final Cut under another user.
This issue is occurring on an iMac Intel Core 2 Duo. I have a fresh install on my Macbook Pro which is running without any issues.
Any major update, and certainly a brand new version, should commence with a cloned boot drive, wipe of the boot drive, and a fresh install of OS and FCS3 with updates.
The fresh install on the Macbook Pro means that there was no previous installation of Final Cut.
While I did upgrade from an install of FCS2 on the iMac, I have now deleted all the components and receipts for Final Cut Studio and reinstalled from scratch. It's more likely that there's a conflict with some third party software than that there's some problem with installing over the previous version of Final Cut. I don't know what it could be though, considering I logged in as a new user and the issue persisted. I uninstalled a few suspects like Perian, but the issue persisted.
I'm not willing to wipe my entire hard drive and install everything from scratch to fix a problem with a Final Cut update, though doubtlessly that would fix (any) issue. I'd rather wait and find out what the issue is than nuke my entire drive and take a week off to reinstall all my production software.
I don't have anything to add to the question of our differences of philosophy on troubleshooting software issues, so I'll try to gracefully bow out and agree, that you can, in fact, kill a fly with a sledgehammer.
To the poster earlier in the thread who mentioned a similar issue in a past update- you're most likely talking about a problem with pro application support that caused something sort-of similar. In that case you could delete the prokit and pro app support files and receipts and reinstall to fix the issue. That doesn't seem to be the case here.
After fighting a similar battle with white screens after an FCS3 upgrade, my solution was to do a full system reinstall (after backing up my old system, of course).
Actually, a full install may not be necessary. This morning, I reinstalled my Magic Bullet Colorista plugin for a project I need to finish ... My master templates turned white. After some searching, I found how to uninstall Colorista:
