I believe there is a website where you can post your MAC number so the iPod touch/iPhone can find your location over wifi. Does anyone know what I am talking about?

Never heard of it. But locating according to IP address is extremely unreliable, and getting more accurate than city-wide is unlikely. In fact, I routinely use internet and my IP address locates me over a thousand miles away. This is thanks to our dynamic routing system, which is leftover form the ARPA era. Some people like it though, because it gives them more anonymity.
I fail to see the point of submitting the information. I submitted mine weeks ago to no avail. I did receive an email response back from the company but my location is still set in GA when we're in VA.
Thanks much for the information. I tried this about 6 months ago and it seemed to work, but I recently got a new touch and and a new mac. It did take several weeks for it to kick in.
Just for clarity, they need the
Wireless MAC address of your access point. The wired (ethernet) side has a MAC address too.
With a Mac laptop connected to an Airport, just Option-click the wireless icon at the top right of the screen. the MAC address is made up of eight 2-digit numbers separated by colons and is labeled BSSID, at least on Snow Leopard.
Skyhook warns that it might take weeks for the update to take effect, based on how often their clients update the data.
FWIW, I used my AirPort at my old office, about 12 miles from here and NEVER registered the MAC address with anyone; also I have my iPod Touch connected to a different AP on the same network, but still the iPod reports my location as the old office despite having moved 4 months ago!
