Logic and FLAC

I bought Logic Studio 8 two weeks ago(doh!), and I've been trying to learn it. I must say, it is quite logic(!) and very easy to use, despite the fact that it is also very advanced and you can do so much stuff in it. Well, anyway, today I was going to import a FLAC file, and I realised that you can't! Does anybody know the reason for this? FLAC is free to use, so I don't understand how Apple could lose money on supporting it. I checked iTunes store, and it isn't supported there either(that's okay for me though, as I'm more of a vinyl guy).

And also: is FLAC supported in Logic 9? I can't wait to upgrade it!

UnFLAC your file back to a regular, uncompressed audio file before using it in any DAW.

Really, you shouldn't be using compressed files formats for performance reasons.
