Ringtones only play 2 times!

Question

Ringtones only play 2 times!

When I get a call, my custom ringtones only play 2 times, then it goes silent. The call is still coming through, but not ringing! Anyone else have this issue?!?

Are you using a custom ringtone that is unusually short, say less than 5 or 10 seconds?

This problem is discussed in the following thread and one user reported that a very short ringtone length was causing his/her problem.

I just did some testing and this is what i found:

If I have a "custom ringtone" for a contact AND my phone is "locked" (powered on, but the screen is off) it only rings TWO times. But if the phone (screen) is on, it rings normally.

If I turn a specific custom ringtone (I've tried many - long & short) off, and just have that contact use the DEFAULT ringtone, it works fine.

I even tried setting the default ringtone to one of the ones that was causing problems and it worked fine.

It has something to do with setting individual ringtones for different contacts AND the phone being locked. It has to be a bug in the software because it worked just fine before.

Can someone else try this and see if you have the same results before I call Apple?!?

All of my custom ring tones work as designed and ring until it goes to VM...I have create nearly all of my ringtones myself in Garage Band so they all are 25-35 seconds...None of mine are shorter than 20 seconds...

How did you get the custom ringtone you're having issues with? purchase from iTunes or did you make it? If you made it was that in Garage Band or iTunes or a 3rd party app? How long is the tone? Over 35-40 seconds will cause issues...

Have you tired to remove that custom tone and then hard reset your device then add that tone back??

Have you done a restore of software as you may be having a software corruption issue that could be fixed by a full restore???

I created all of mine in Garage Band also. Some are short (2-3 seconds) and some are longer (20 seconds max). I've tried restoring and adding the ringtones again - same problem!

I'm gonna call Apple and report back.

Same problem here. Using the built-in ringtones on the iPhone, but anything other than the "default" rings only 2 times...

Zoom is off and all ringtones are the supplied ones for the iPhone- so those are not the issues.
