My new MacBook - No more glass multi touch?!?!

Hello everyone.

I had just received my MBP 13.3 2.53g (default customization settings)

and I realized that my touch pad is not one of those glass pads. Is this the new thing now?? (which by the way makes dragging documents extremely difficult)

Also, I am in the process of testing out m batteries which dies out after near 3 hours of web surfing (interrupted often by the mac screen going dim).but is the battery duration normal for this model which supposedly boast a 7 hr life?

Am wondering if i need to call support ><

Hi DaveKin,

All of the new MacBook Pros that were released/announced at WWDC last month have the glass trackpad. So if you're certain that you don't have one then you'll either need to contact Applecare or the location that you purchased the unit from.

Regarding battery life, there's a lot of factors in determining battery life. Getting about 3 hours when web surfing, on WiFi, based on the content and how much is multimedia is not abnormal. Can you tell us what you were watching/viewing while on the Internet? A lot of video/audio?

I have resolved my battery issues. (the bluetooth was turned on by the automatic updates on bluetooh devices)

with regards to the glass touchpad, I am very sure mine is not a glass one. I have other friends using the unibody and the texture and look is definitely different. It feels more like the older mac version of the silver touchpads.

And

This mac was purchased from the apple store and shipped from Shanghai. *received it 3 days ago

really? =_=

I have seen some of my friends who had bought an earlier version of the MBP unibody types and their touch pad is shiny and reflective. Its touch is akin to that of an ipod or iphone touch surface. But mine feels like the old silver mac books as it is slightly rougher than glass rough, and when slightly knocked sounds and feels just like the aluminum case itself.

But I've asked another friend who also had recently bought a 15in MBP and her's is the same as mine. So I'm going to assume that this is the new touch pads.

Using Neuro's example, you can try smacking the trackpad with a hammer. If it shatters, it is glass... if it dents, it's plastic or aluminum. Or... you could take our word for it being glass. 😉

All unibody MacBooks and MacBook Pros have a glass trackpad. Basically if you do not have an independent trackpad button on the bottom like the older machines, it's glass.

To be honest, this is the first I've heard this. I received the same machine as you about three weeks ago. The trackpad on mine is not textured. I suppose they could have changed the trackpad since then perhaps to something akin to frosted glass... but I haven't heard anything to that effect. I would be more concerned regarding your comment about dragging documents being extremely difficult. Regardless of the trackpad surface, this should not be the case. It is possible that there was a production problem which could have resulted in some funky trackpads (although, again... I haven't heard of any). The best thing for you to do would be to visit your local Apple store and compare it with the machines they have there. If there is a difference, you may have a faulty trackpad.
