The latest paper issue of Macworld had a question and answer regarding this. As I recall, if you're talking about Software Update, you can convince that to download files at a particular time. This can involve staying up very late once or lying to the Date & Time preference panel long enough to set the download time.

If you're talking about general Internet downloads, that's a different story. There might be a solution involving the "cron" utility.

I have Folx download manager (which is in Beta). It has a scheduler in the preferences which you set up first then create a task that of type schedule and it will do that at the scheduled time.

edit: Mind you with anything in Beta some caution should be exercised. I have found the application has been great especially since it will download multiple threads.

Did it fail on all downloads? Have you checked that the host did not suffer some problem at that time that would have caused it not be "resolved". Does the host go off line at some time during the early morning? Maybe the software is unable to resume should there be an interruption. It is beta after all (though you would have thought that it would be capable of resuming).

Can you download the same items at some other time to observe the process to check that the target is correct?

Believe I've solved one problem, I didn't have the proxy set. it downloads now, not sure if it does on schedule yet. discovered another issue, I'm trying to download to RealPlayer or VLC. it's automatically downloading into something called UNIX executable. bottom line it won't play the video. or capture the entire video. any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I keep going over the fair access threshold on HUGHES NET, and it really goes slow after that. plus where do I find the version of Mac OS X. I have. thanks so much for your help

the schedule did work,However, what I normally download fine from/ or should I say with RealPlayer downloader on other networks are now coming up with this UNIX executable file. I believe I had this same error when I first tried downloading to this 10.5 .7 laptop. the computer just won't read this kind of file as far as I know. I started with wimpy downloader, went to RealPlayer, but view and play and save as VLC app. VLC app was recommended by the genius desk. plays well, looks good. any ideas
thanks a bunch.
