OK, I'm back, with a fresh nose dive. After my last one, I reset the SMC controller as per the instructions here:

It seemed to be OK for a few days until tonight.... another instant shutdown. Here's the last bits of a crash report. The crash was circa 6:54. Is there anything in here that suggest software vs. hardware? Any thoughts, suggestions?
