Trouble with importing MXF files and XML files.

I'm using FCP 5.1.2. I am having to import MXF Sony XDCAM HD 1080i footage. I downloaded and installed Sony XDCAM Transfer Version 1.1.0. I am able to import some small reference files that are in a sub folder, but the main big MXF clips in the clips folder won't import. In that clip folder are also XML files that correspond to the MXL files. When I try to Import them in FCP they ask for a translation document. I need to get this footage in,.. any help here would be appreciated.

OH, well then, you can't use FCP to import at all. The L&T interface in 5.1 was only for P2...called FILE>IMPORT>PANASONIC P2. There is NO support for XDCAM or AVCINTRA or AVCHD in FCP 5.1. You will have to download the Sony XDCAM transfer software and use THAT to convert the footage to QT. But again, I am not positive FCP 5.1 will support that XDCAM version. Might, so worth a shot.

Note that the transfer utility you installed says, clear as day, that it requires FCP 6.0.3 to work:

Sony XDCAM Micro-site

THIS is what you need to convert XDCAM to QT for FCP.

Will XDCAM EX Clip Browser Version 2.5.1 for Windows and MAC that you sent me the link to work for XDCAM HD as well as EX?

As far as using the XDCAM TRANSFER that I installed, it stated it was suitable for my version of FCP. I have also tried opening it as a stand alone application apart from FCP(as other people on this forum have done) and got the same result (XDCAM Transfer could not find any XDCAM compatible files at the location)
