Boot Camp drivers won't install on WinXP

I have recently decided to go back to using Boot Camp and Parallels, rather than just Parallels. I installed Windows XP SP2 just fine, however, when I put in my Leopard upgrade disc, Windows only acknowledges there's a disc in there (by changing from "DVD-R/RW Drive" to "CD Drive"). It doesn't show there's any data on the disc. It does the same thing if I put in my original Tiger disc that came with my Mini.

I have also tried downloading the BootCamp 2.1 drivers and installing them directly in XP, but only get a folder in the User > Application Data > Tmp directory with two files in it. One appears to be an installer. I click on it and the Windows Installer gives me an error about things either missing or needing updated.

I can't find the BootCamp 2.0 drivers and since my OSX DVDs aren't being read by Windows (though they are by OSX), I seem to be stuck.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Hi,

the OSX Installation DVD is the only source for the BootCamp 2.0 Drivers.
And although stated otherwise on the download page, the 2.1 Update is indeed only an update and seems to only work if the 2.0 Drivers are already installed.

Is there any chance tha you might have installed MacDrive already ?
Cause if so, then it could prevent the Windows portion of the OSX DVD to be seen/used http://assist.mediafour.com/index.php?a=knowledgebase&_j=questiondetails&i=55&nav2=MacDrive

If you have a friend with a Windows PC, try using the OSX DVD there and copy the full content of it onto an USB-Memory Stick.
Or if you still have Parallels installed, try this procedure from within Parallels Windows.

Hope it helps

I do not have MacDrive installed.

I have installed Parallels 4 and have tried installing the Boot Camp drivers that way, but have the same problem as mentioned about with CD recognition.

Another problem is that my Factory OSX discs are for Tiger and don't have BootCamp 2.0 drivers. I've seen that contrary to Apple's pronouncement (surprise) that BootCamp 2.0 drivers must be installed before they can be updated to 2.1. The message from the Windows Installer seems to bear this out.

Is there a way to burn a Windows disc of BootCamp drivers from within the BootCamp Assistant as happened (with much better results) as in the Beta?

Hi,

with the inclusion of BootCamp into OSX 10.5 Leopard, Apple has put the BootCamp Drivers onto the OSX Leopard DVD and removed them from the BootCamp Assistant.

Your signature states OSX 10.5.7 (which is Leopard) so I assume that you have an OSX Leopard DVD, right ?
On it are the BootCamp 2.0 drivers.

On the OSX 10.4 Tiger DVD there are no BootCamp Drivers.

So, as already said, if you have the opportunity to use a Windows PC, use the OSX Leopard DVD there to get the drivers.

Regards

Stefan
