Dock Gradient Issue

Having trouble with folders added to the doc. When adding a folder to the dock, right hand side by the trash, a strange horizontal gradient appears in the space where the folder icon will be located just before the folder is added. Once the folder is added the gradient is applied to the background of the folder when it is popped up. An install and archive of the system didn't stop the issue. As far as I know I'm not running anything like candy bar or konfabulator. Any ideas on how to get rid of this would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Odd. On my MacBook Pro with OSX 10.5.7 the Trash can icon occupies the right most position on the Dock and can't be moved out the way by another object (unlike other items on the Dock which can be moved around). Not sure how it is that on your machine, as you seem to be implying, that you can move the Trash can or put something to the right of it.

The folder is not on the right of the trash, it is on the right of the dock.

In order to keep my dock as clean as possible I only put the programs I use constantly in the main dock area. The applications I open once or twice a day, or less, I organize aliases of into folders, then add these folders to the dock. This keeps the dock clean yet gives quick access to the apps. Adobe apps in one folder, microsoft in another, apple aps in another, utils, etc, it works for me.

I've recently noticed a visual difference on the PowerBook G4 17" that shouldn't be their, and I'm trying to figure out why and get rid of it.

I have now reformatted the drive of the PB and put a clean install of the operating system on it. Next I created a folder and placed aliases of the utilities I wanted access to into this folder, 10 of them for a test. Then I added the folder to the dock on the right hand side, between the trash can and the dock preferences bar. On the PowerBook G4 Laptop running 10.5.7 when you click the folder icon in the dock it pops up and opens with a gradiented background and odd gradient remnants around the box. Doing the same thing on the iMac intel 17" there is no gradient. I've checked all the folder and screen settings on both systems and they seem to be the same.

I don't see any other visual issues on the PB thus I don't think it is a hardware issue. I'm hoping it's a setting, but sense both systems seem to be set the same I'm wondering if it is something more.

I think I am with you. When I add a folder to the dock, in the position you describe, on my MBP the folder opens up in "grid" format (Automatic) with a gradient background showing the contents of the folder as rows of icons. The surrounds of the gradient box have a shadow which is typical of all windows when they open on the desktop.

I'm assuming that you are aware that that you have 3 different display options (List, Fan and Grid) when you open the folder from the dock. Can you post a pic of what you see on your G4 and your iMac.

Ok....
So it took a while to do but here they are. The first image "correct one" is from my iMac, all four of the others are from the laptop. Notice that its not always white, I'm getting colors now and then as well.

Still looking for an answer to what's causing this and how to fix it.
