I too use to buy AppleCare from LA Computer Company, but not anymore...I go to Ebay!

ebay is the cheapest usually; however, being very cautious is a good thing:

check out the seller's feedback, and I prefer buying it only if it is advertised as new and in an unopened factory sealed box.

There have been many threads here regarding this issue - do some sellers email a previously used registration code? Some have reported that Apple has refused some activations; in some cases you won't know until you'd actually need to take advantage of the Applecare because of some problem. You can avoid that by only buying it in a factory sealed box.

the one for my 17" MacbookPro a month ago was $160

I was advised by a sales assistant in a Apple Store to do this!

You sure it wasn't just someone who got an Apple t-shirt at an Apple Store opening? Can you name the sales assistant's name and store name? If you can't then we believe you don't know how to tell a real sales assistant apart from an Apple fan.

Lol, I'm prepared to humour you on this occasion. The store was in Lakeside in Essex, UK. I have no idea of the sales assistants name as I didn't make a purchse there and then, I opted to purchase my MacBook and Apple Care directly from Apple over the phone.

This was not a 'store opening' this was a member of staff who was advising me as I browsed the store. I took her suggestion with the help of a kind friend who is a full-time student and recieved my Apple Care for the bargain price of £46.
