I know the size of the 3Gs is slightly thinner than the previous iphone. But, the case in point (pardon the pun) is that I'm looking for a case for the 3Gs that's a hard-case, with smooth plastic back and rubber only on the sides. That way it's non-slip to hold, yet can slip in and out of a pocket rather easily...
I am using a 3G case with a perfect fit to my 3GS. It's my favorite case, and it's not in production any more, so I was happy that I could use it on my 3GS.
You might want to take a look at Incipio this one has rubber sides and is easy to take in and out of your pocket. a full rubber phone case is just about impossible to take out of your pocket.
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to look at the Incipio case today. As far as magnets go, It would be safe to say that they should most probably be kept away from the iPhone. I would suspect that, specially for the 3Gs with the compass.
I looked at dozens of case reviews, store displays, etc. A salesman at an ATT Store turned me onto the Otterbox Defender. It is essentially an inner polycarbonite case covered by a removable rubber covering. It's available for around $32 at Amazon.
It looks sharp, definitely protects the iPhone and yet all the controls are easily accessible. The included belt-clip is secure on belts and non-belted pants and shorts.
My iPhone suffered a drop from waist-height onto asphalt. It landed right on a corner edge and I think that it would have been damaged without the Otterbox. As it turned out all it did was bounce...
It adds a little bulk and weight to the iPhone but I think that the bare iPhone is too thin and doesn't offer much to grip when in use. I thought that the Otterbox might be too bulky but it actually makes the iPhone more pleasant to hold and the case makes hand-holding the phone during a conversation much more pleasant.
Hi! I ended up buying an Incipio case today. The Otterbox is great, but it's a bit overkill for me. Not to mention, I don't use belt clips and I need to carry the phone in my pockets. The Otterbox is just too big for my needs. Great case though.
The other case I was interested in was an iSkin (but it wasn't in stock at the ATT store. Also, the iFrogz Luxe. I was very close to getting hte iFrogz, but it seemed to easy to scratch and break. Plus, the Incipio case is more what I was originally looking for.
