what is TTY in the Iphone?

Hy there folks! I am sorry but i am a novice in all of this things with the iphone and technology, but does anyone around here have an idea of what is TTY that can be found in the iPhone? what is it for? thanks

It is for the hearing impaired.

Text Telephone Device.

It enables the hearing impaired to communicate via telephone. In able for it to work, both users must have TTY on, and they can type messages back and forth.
