iPhone Wifi Unable to join Network

Since 3 days now my iphone 3G(3.0) can not connect to a wireless network. Before it connect automatically at home or at work but now it says "Unable to join network". I have reset the network even restore my iphone to default settings. Still it can not connect to a wireless network. But what I dont understand is that it finds wireless networks but can not connect to it even to a free wireless network it keeps on displaying "Unable to join network"
I have called AppleCare they told me to do thesame things I have done.
Any body having thasame problem? Is it hardware or software problem? Please can any body help me? iPhone is no good without wifi...

I am in the UK, on the o2 network, I am using the 2g Iphone and glad to sdee I am not alone here. My problems like some of the reports on here started a few weeks after the upgrade to ver 3.0

Here is the post I left on the O2 forum after they decided it was not really their problem to resolve.

I have an Iphone, and the wi-fi has started playing up, I have been to the o2 shop and we have done the usual things:

A) take out the sim card
B) restore
c) reset newtwork setting
d) reset all settings

I still get "cannot scan for wireless network"

Just go off the phone from 02 customer help, they told me my options were that I as was I was out of Waranty

a) Apple would charge me for a repair
b) He would check to see if I could get an early upgrade (My contract runs out in October, they said they would give me a months grace)
c) I was told by the man on the phone My Best bet was to pay off my remaining months to 02 @ £35 / Month (3 Months)and then take out another 18 month contract

What a JOKE why would I want to pay £100 quid to cancel my contract then pay for another 18 months plus the upgrade cost of the phone.

I love my Iphone, but 02 have really upset me and I dont think I will be prepared to continue with them once my contract expires in October, if thats what they call customer services.

So beware - the Iphone os not that relaible and your phone goes out of warranty before your contract ends !!!

This is how i resolved my issue; I have a Linksys WRT54G and it is not your router. I called and talked to a apple tech and this is what I did to fix the Wi_FI issue.

1.Hold your home and power button for 10 seconds until you see the silver apple then release.
2. wait until silver apple is gone and the slide to unlock screen comes up(if it does not come up by it self, push the power button for a sec.

3.Go to your setting and make sure wifi is on and then you should see that all the wifi access points are back.

I have WEP security and it is on and I just selected my SSID and enter my password and voila back to normal.

Hope this works for you.

Oh yeah i also reset network settings before I did all this, but I don't know if that matters..just try and see.

I also have this issue (iPhone 3g), have tried to connect to multiple wifi networks, and have not successfully made a connection since upgrade to 3.0, recently upgraded to 3.0.1 and still the problem persists.

Have tried all potential fixes listed in this discussion, issue still exists.

The new update hasn't made any difference to the wi-fi issue and I've also tried all the reset advice as posted on this page. No joy: problem still exists.

O2 have told me to, after trying all the reset, reload stuff, take it back to an o2 store or apple store. I actually don't think that will help long term and will just be an inconvenience. All that lies left is to hold out for apple to pull there fingers out.

I am too one of the people who are affected by this annoying wifi issues! My wifi can see APs i just couldn't connect to any even if it's free/open. I just kept on getting "unable to connect". Due to this annoyance i scoured the net to look for any solution but to no avail until now. What i did i shared my internet connection on my macbook pro running leopard. I am using a lan internet on my macbook pro. I shared it via my airport card. After doing all the settings and stuff, i grabbed my iphone and open up my wifi and tried to connect to my macbook pro. And voila! i connected! I have my wifi working! However, i still couldn't connect on any router. But at least, i know my wifi chip is NOT DEAD!!!

exact same problem...
was working
now cannot connect to network...
rebuilt my network through router settings...
reset network settings on iphone...
even tried making my network wifi free of security features...
wife's iphone works fine...
my ipod touch works fine...
my iphone won't connect... doesn't even have the "renew lease" button on the network settings...
something is very wrong with the new software that was downloaded to mine...
perhaps my wife got a different version downloaded...
ANYONE with ANY IDEAS please help...

just my thoughts on this,

my past 2 iphones had this issue, brought it in and they did a swap on the spot.

i asked them what is wrong, and was told it's a known issue.

1st swap for this issue (which was my 2nd swap, 1st swap due to a microphone issue), they tried to scan networks and was unable to. did a swap.

2nd swap a week later (which would be the 3rd swap), i told them the problem and they did not even check. just brought out a "new" set for me.
