Recent issues with battery/charging

Hi All,

A few weeks ago I updated my OS to the new 3.0. Earlier this week, ATT had a network issue in my area and the data network was unavailable. Overnight, my battery ran out of juice and shut down. Since that time, I have been unable to fully charge my phone. It gets to about 75 or 80% charge and will not charge further. When unplugged, that 80% charge only lasts about 3 hours of standby--and about 30 minute of use.
I have rebooted my iphone, turned off wifi, location services, turned off push email all in attempts to save battery life. I have even set it to airplane mode (this is the only thing that allows standby to be about 7 hours of life).

Does anyone have any suggestions? My planned next step is to backup my iphone on my macbook and do a total reset. Anything else?

thanks!!

Update: did a restore and still have problem. Batter drains excessively fast. I find that I am constantly charging the phone. As an experiment, I did a full charge and reset the usage statistics--then turned off wifi, email to fetch manually, location services off etc... I did not touch it-no calls, no texts. the battery was fully drained in 4 hours. However, the usage statistics said it was 10 hours since full recharge and that I had 3 hours of usage time. the cellular network data showed 20.4MB of recieved and 3.6MB of sent. I had no apps running!!
I then plugged it in to a wall charger overnight. when i woke up and picked up the phone, it had the red charge symbol on it and now I can't get any charge...

there are several applications that will display battery life.
mybatterylife
batterystatus
freememory 1.4
batterystats
battery level 3.0
to name a few

I do not have any on my phone however. Due to my battery issues, I have removed all apps that did not come with the phone for troubleshooting...

I had something similer I took it to the store and they gave me a new phone I went home put all hte stuff back on and it did it again so i called tech support and they had me restore the phone as new and that works well hten I put one new app on a day and that was fine. Whe i went to put back on my email through microsoft exchange that was when it got hot and started to drain the battery. I'm not a comupter guy but I think there is a bug in that system at least it worked for me
