Finding website in Google

Hello-

I have been trying to figure this out for weeks. I have called Apple and they weren't really able to help me....

I am trying to get my website to show in google/yahoo/msn when I type in key words.

I have tried to create site maps using xml-sitemaps.com and other similar sites but it only indexes one page (the home page). I also tried to include individual hyperlinks on the bottom of the page that I created myself (because iWeb doesn't lay out a raw site map) hoping this would help.

I am registered in master tools on google. I have tried third part software like iWeb SEO Tool. None of them seem to be able to find the rest of my pages.

I am at a dead end. Does anyone know how to create a site map with more than one indexed pages? Or does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

Thank You!

I have read with much interest various topics covering iWeb and SEO.

My planned workflow is to use iWeb for design and layout of pages, making use of ease of placement of text, images, blog stuff, gallery, google maps etc.
Then, I will use Dreamweaver to make my site SEO friendly as this is critical.

My question is this (which I could probably answer myself if I tried it but wondered if anyone knows for sure):

If I SEO my content using dreamweaver and then make any changes to the site using iWeb, will re-publishing from iWeb completely overwrite all my good work in Dreamweaver such that I will have to do it all again?

If so, perhaps it's best to just make myself a good layout and css using iWeb and then use these pages as templates, sticking with Dreamweaver from that point on?

Seems such a shame that iWeb is just not quite there. It is such a fantastic and intuitive product, missing just the ability to get the search engine to find the site!

As has been pointed out, creating your own text based navigation will allow you to compile a comprehensive sitemap.xml. The worst thing you can do is use the default navigation or flash.

I publish to a local folder and add tags using SEO Tool before optimizing and uploading. The tags have to be refreshed every time you publish the HTML files from iWeb.

If you go about things the right way you can get your sites found. Its not really a limitation of iWeb so much as putting effort into SEO.

While all these are valid ideas; I have already tried them (except dreamweaver because I do not want to buy another software program).

I have created my own navigation at the bottom of the page hyperlinking the pages myself. Still when I try to create a sitemap.xml it only indexes my first home page.

It seems so complicated to just have google make your website show up using a few key words. Its hard to believe that this is the only way to connect google and iWeb together.

How do I make a sitemap with all my indexed pages?

I have seen your website from several different sites that I have been looking towards for help however it doesn't help me much.

I know what a sitemap is. I know how they work/their purpose. I just cannot figure out how to get more than my home page indexed when creating a sitemap.

It only indexes the first page. ANY suggestions would be appreciated!

Without seeing your website it is likely that you are using domain masking. You will know if you are using domain masking if the path bar at the top of your browser doesn't change as you navigate to different pages on your site.

Email your webhost and tell them to use CNAME forwarding without domain masking.

Otherwise, please post your website here and I can have a look at it for you.

Roody-

Thanks so much for that information it was dead on! I called and now I am able to create exact sitemaps. I went to your website to use it as a reference for continuing the google search. But some of your instructions say "upload to website folder" or "upload to server folder" I called apple hoping they would be able to help but. No luck.

I now have an indexed website and it opens in text edit (I used xml-sitemaps). How do I upload that to my goolgle sitemap submissionspot? Is anything free?

Thanks for being so good at this!

Mandy
