Apple should control the iPhone cost in Colombia...
I want to start a discussion about this issue, because is very unfair the treat that we receive as Apple users outside of the U.S. to make a comparison, In Colombia local carriers as COMCEL and MOVISTAR control the market and are "abusive", They are asking for prices that triple the real price of this product, to make a comparison in The US an iphone that costs around $200 costs here around $700, not to say about the plans they are offering... You get the worst for the price you're paying...!!
We definitely need more control with the market price of Apple products in Colombia.
Does Comcel and Movistar offer a subsidized price for the iPhone there, which requires a two year contract or longer?
AT&T's fully subsidized price for the 3GS is $199 for the 16GB, and $299 for the 32GB plus applicable sales tax. This is for new AT&T subscribers, or for existing subscribers who qualify for AT&T's upgrade or fully subsidized price with a new phone. This price requires a two year contract with AT&T along with AT&T's unlimited data plan for the iPhone, which is $30/mo and is not optional.
AT&T's no-contract or no-commitment price for the 3GS is $599 for the 16GB, and $699 for the 32GB plus applicable sales tax. No contract with AT&T is required when purchasing the iPhone at this price.
Actually, that sounds about right. They only reason we get phone cheap here is because the device is subsidized by ATT with a contract. It sounds like the carriers in Columbia do not subsidized the phone. It does retail at $600.
