Update to 3.0.1 stuck (iPhone 3G)

Hello, I hope you can help me.

I just tried to update my iPhone 3G (which ran on 3.0) to 3.0.1 and after 2 hours of downloading it, it started to install.
The iPhone is now showing me a little Apple logo with a full loading bar below it - the Mac an "Updating iPhone software" box with the bar stuck at about one third. It hasn't moved for about an hour now, I think.
According to ASU, my iTunes is the newest version available.
What can I do? Just wait MORE (I mean, it hasn't done anything forever now) or do SOMETHING? I have no idea and I don't want to break anything.. (it's not even 2 months old!)

What if I disconnect the USB cord?
Can I just do the update again later then or will my iPhone die?
Nothing has happened with the iTunes loading bar, and I highly doubt that I will move if I don't do anything.

I now pulled the USB cord and got an error (9).
It's restoring now.

same problem here.

iphone stuck at full loading bar
restoring iphone-software bar in itunes not moving anymore

i tried:
redownloading the software
restarting pc
using another usb port
using an imac instead of my pc
latest itunes

results are the same
dunno what else to do rly

Just purchased 2 phones today for my wife and I. 8GB 3G's, We were working with them just fine with 3.0.0, upgraded to 3.0.1 and have been in the same boat since then.

I suspected a firmware update after trying all the usual stuff. When was the firmware officially released? Have they run into a huge snag, or are others having luck with the new firmware?

Can you say...somewhat glad to see others with the same issue??? 😉

Interesting to see Mac's in there with Windows trying to get this update installed. Would love to have a solution.

ok.
i called the apple support. guy on the phone didnt have to say anything productive.
told me UPS would pick it up tomorrow.
ONE WEEK for my repaired phone or some other phone that would be "as good as new"
no need rly

after several more tries (different usb-cable) i went back to firmware 3.0 again. restored the latest backup. phone seems to be working so far. -> is syncing now

will tell you if everything went ok in about 1k songs

Same thing happened to me. It was stuck on verifying something. Got the same error (9). Rebooted the iphone and had to restore. Once restored the iphone is updated to 3.0.1. I thought I lost my pictures but recent pics are still there.

Yep....was doing the upgrade on my 3g and BAM.....error, had to restore. It was restoring and got ANOTHER error. Now I am screwed. It was to restore to original settings. SO yeah, I've lost EVEYRTHING on my phone.
