System preferences deleted and pacifist not installing.

Somehow I lost system preferences. It must have been deleted by someone, and trash was emptied. I have tried to install it again using pacifist but when I click the install button it comes up with this:

Error - The file “/var/folders/3W/3WRAR dbFm0A2gs9BAsklk++TI/-Tmp-/Pacifist Temp/5198/35ca79c3702b44d5a87d2009138f37df Contents/f6025090101f4705964f898f7e242f19 Contents/7a51b90ed9ed4388915ad6595b8c49db Contents/65e75a54d65043e8b34d7a91fef48bac Contents/./Applications/System Preferences.app/Contents/CodeResources” does not exist.

It has this error message with about 25 different files.

I don't think I am installing it incorrectly. I put the disk in, open pacifist, click on open apple install disks, wait and change disk over, select system preferences.app

When I verify the files everything seems to be there, so I have no clue what is going wrong.

Please help.

I'm not entirely sure from your description what the problem you are trying to solve actually is or if Pacifist is the right tool to fix it, but it sounds like you may be trying to extract files from the installer disc's OS folder instead of its installer packages.

Can you explain in more detail what you mean by "click on open apple install disks, wait and change disk over, select system preferences.app"?

Well, when I insert the Mac OS disk, then I open up Pacifist and there are three options.

1. Open Package
2. Open Url
3. Open Apple Install Disks

I choose 3. and then I have to wait for the disk to load. When the loading is at about halfway it tells me to change the disk (there are two Mac OS disks).

When the loading is finished I expand the folder called "Essentials....." all the way until I get to System Preferences.app

When I try to install it on my computer it comes up with that error message.

Am i meant to be doing anything differently?

System preferences deleted and pacifist not installing.
