AirPort Utility cannot detect any Apple wireless devices?

So,

My new Airport Express is plugged into my modem, and is happily blinking amber to indicate that it is ready for set-up. The Airport utility is installed on my Dell, and states it cannot detect any Apple wireless devices to set-up. However, the WiFi manager on my Dell picks up the Apple Airport just fine... so here I am, connected to the internet via my Airport on my home WiFi internet... but unable to detect and set-up my AirPort so my home network is secure. Any thoughts or suggestions on how to fix this?

Thank you,
M

Bob,

I tried that, and it did not work. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the AirPort Utility to no avail. I have the modem working and I can either connect my computer to the internet via the Ethernet cable directly, or I can plug the Ethernet cable from the modem to the AirPort Express -- either way, I can connect to the internet. But I still can't recognize the Express with the Utility, and I still can't set up a secure home network. Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks,
M

I just posted something like this:

"It happened to me today. I noticed that if you change the name of the Airport Express and also some other information in other tabs, like the wireless info, and then you save (the AE restarts) then it is ot available.

To solve the issue that I could not see it anymore, I connected to the AE with a LAN ethernet cable, then executed the set ups one tab at the time, saving (restarting) in between.

It works
GG "

It is a work around, but it works, and after the first set up (save and restart) the Airport Utility could detect the Airport Express.

I see the same problem (Airport utility does not detect the device) for the following reasons -

Windows firewall is on - either go to windows security in control panel or configuration for the wireless adapter or open all network connections, select your wifi adapter and configure windows firewall, set it to off. close aiport utility and start again.

If the Airport is flashing amber, then make sure you have the 'Monitor apple aireless devices for problems' option selected fomr the files-prefrences menu of airport utility.

Hope this helps.
