Battery falls out.

Hello everyone, I'm 14 and we use our iBooks every day at school. Sometimes when I take mine out of the case the lock for the battery has unlocked itself and the battery has fallen out. It does this some at home but not as much. I don't think it's a really serious problem, but it is annoying having to re-boot my computer. Have you had any experiences with this?

Hey tyler when you lock the battery in place, are you turning it all the way to the lock position?

Thanks for the fast reply. I lock it all the way in the lock position. That's what makes me wonder about it.

are you pressing the battery flush with the ibook also when locking it into position?

Yep, I press it flush and everything and it still manages to unlock itself and fall out.

power down your ibook and unplug it first then (while its closed of course) flip it on its front so the bottom is facing up and remove the battery, lock and unlock it several times with the battery removed and see if the metal tab is coming all the way out also check the plastic slot on the battery to make sure its not broken or something is not stuck in there preventing the tab from locking securly..

Everything seems fine about the batter and the lock except the lock seems very easy to lock and unlock. Is this normal?

yea its easy to lock and unlock but mine has never come unlocked by itself... sounds like your locking mechanisim is not locking itself tight enough.

tell someone at the school about it so if your carrying your laptop and the battery falls off and breaks your not completely liable... Batteries cost about around $129 bucks

When I carry it around it's usually in the case so I'm not too worried about the battery getting dropped. I guess I need to tell our IT guy about it. I've already had to replace the battery because of the recall, but it did the same thing before the new battery. I'm hoping to get a powerbook next year and hopefully I won't have the same problem.
