I use Little Snitch.
I'm seeing EVSecure~ocsp.verisign.com trying to access some information so I have told little snitch not to allow connection when using Safari.
Should I allow this?

Hi,

What sites are you using when you notice this connection being made? Verisign are one of the certificate signing authorities that websites use to help indicate they are genuine and can be trusted. Based on your brief description, I personally wouldn't be worried. 🙂

It's random. Usually going to some shopping on reputable sites. I don't do surfing on sites that aren't nationally known or shady to start with, I don't even surf *****. Even though it seems harmless who checks the checker? I don't worry about anything on the web when using a Mac. I really do like Little Snitch since it does warn you about who's trying to access your computer even if they seem harmless. Anyway, harmless or not they've been denied access to my system, I don't like hidden access permissions, stuff like this should be warned by Apple on the intentions of Safari.

Hi,

To be honest you're probably just blocking an enhanced authentication method and if anything making yourself more insecure. It's not an Apple thing. You should see the same access from any browser that makes use of [EV certificates|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extended ValidationCertificate] (such as Firefox).

I have a problem with that. Either way it seems you are giving up security. I just don't feel secure giving up computer rights to someone I don't know or claim to be helping security. What seems to be good could come back and bite you. Thank goodness for firewalls. Microsoft is even better at it than Apple.

My last comment.

I've been a heavy user of Microsoft and been using Apple since December. Coincidence of not: When purchasing the mac I also started using 2 new email accounts. And both email accounts on the mac are pretty much junk mail free. The only junk mail I get are from sites that I've allowed for new letters of product news. With the Microsoft machines I get over 100 junk mail per day from people I've no idea who they are and with internet security set at high priority. Somehow when using Windows my email address and info seems like it's being radiated among the product predators. I feel 100% secure with a OS X and not about to let a third party have access rights to my machine to this so called security feature.
