Transfer Logic and Plugs and to new mac pro

Hi. We're getting a new Mac Pro in the next few days and I'm looking for some advice. What is the best way to transfer Logic and all our plugs over to the new computer? I'm mainly concerned about transferring the numerous plug ins, since I don't want to spend 2 days reinstalling them.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

i've done this 3x in the last month due to a move from a Quad G5 (PPC) to a MacPro 8 core, and an update from my Santa Rosa-based MacBookPro to a new MacBookPro.

First, carboncopycloned the startup disk from the old "source" machine on to an external Firewire drive (FW800).

disconnected the cloned drive from the source machine and connected to the new "target" machine.

start up the new machine and OS X asks very early in the install if you want to migrate information from another machine. I said yes and to use the cloned drive for that information. It will look for applications installed on the cloned HD from the source machine and install it (pretty much all of it) on the new machine.

It copied the root Library folder, all plugs, and applications over to the new machine just fine, as well as all my user-related data... stunning actually when you think about it...

From there... and this is unavoidable, you'll spend quite some time reactivating software that required some kind of challenge/response authentication, such as Omni, RMX. Ivory, which uses an iLok, only asked for the location of the sample library. I would suggest for any plugs that have a standalone version, that you start those one by one and authorize there, otherwise, when you start Logic/MainStage up for the first time, the AU validator will fire up all of your plugs and you'll have to authorize them all in one sitting... (don't ask...)

Is this the cleanest install? dunno, but I've done it three times recently and it seems okay and it's a repeatable process.

You could skip the use of an intermediate, cloned drive by putting your "source" machine in target firewire mode (though in this case it's not the target, that's just what they call it.

Good luck with this.

Oh, by the way... if you've already started up the new machine and have already entered a username which can log on, the whole thing gets harder. You can run the Migration Assistant that's in the utilities folder, but it can't deal with two machines having the same usernames on them (don't ask how I got to know this, just make sure your clone of your startup disk is good)...

This uses Kompakt, not Kontakt.
Kompakt is PPC only. If you want to use this on an Intel based MAC you can only run this with the full version of Kontakt 3.
As Erik pointed out, you still need to install, registered and run once in Kompakt before Kontakt can use it.

I have 2 of EW products that use Kompakt and Intakt as there players. Hardcore Bass and Stormdrum 1 and I had to install, register and run once before I could use these sampled libraries in Kontakt 3.

A simple copy of each of the PLIST files won't work because some copy protection schemes use your hardware as an ID to put in there PLIST files.

If this is true what Erik mentioned, PPC AU componets will not be seen in Logic 8 on an Intel based MAC.

Just install, otherwise if you post any problems after your copy make sure you add in your post that you did a copy and not a proper install.
