Can't charge iPod 2nd generation with Altec Lansing M602 Docking station

Hi! I just bought a new 2nd generation IPod Touch of 32 GB and it seems that it is not compatible with my Altec Lansing M602 Docking station with Speakers. My older 16 GB iPod Touch (first generation) was fully compatible. In both case the music plays but with the new one, I have a message telling me that it can't recharge the battery. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

Try using a small brush, like a tooth brush, to remove any debris from the iPod touch or the dock.

Does the dock have the "Made for iPod" logo? If it doesn't, it might be trying to charge the iPod via firewire.

+"iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPod touch (2nd generation) do not support FireWire and will not charge from any FireWire-based power source. If you connect either of these devices to a FireWire-based charger or accessory"+

According to this: http://www.alteclansing.com/index.php?file=northproduct_detail&iproductid=m602 the Altec Lansing M602 is not compatible with the new iPod Touch 2nd generation.

As mentioned by Jason L. in his post above, the iPod Touch 2nd generation has will not charge from firewire based chargers. The dock connector has changed and those older charger docks that used the firewire pins in the dock connector will not charge these newer iPods. See this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1476

You can get an adapter that will allow your older dock to work: http://store.apple.com/us/product/TV683ZM/A?fnode=MTY1NDA4NA&mco=ODAwNTQ2MA&p=1& s=topSellers
