Microsoft 5000 Bluetooth Mouse and New Mid-2009 MacBook Pro problem

I just got my new mid-09 MacBook Pro 13" model. My Microsoft 5000 Bluetooth Notebook mouse tracks way too quickly and erratically. I doesn't matter if I use the Apple mouse preference control or Microsoft's Intellipoint preference versions 6.3 or 7.0.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so, have you found a solution?

I attached my Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 and it works great -- but isn't bluetooth, it's large, and has a USB puck.

My Dad has a new Mac Mini and it works great with the 5000.

Sorry, I misunderstood when you'd tried them. Your reply was so terse it sounded abrupt and impatient to me, as in "Why are you bothering me with these suggestions I've already tried?" Sometimes happens when there's no face-to-face contact. Again, my apologies.

There have been problems reported with BlueTooth dropouts (lost connections): a very diferent problem from yours with mouse tracking speed. I wonder whether that's the BT problem that 10.5.8 is meant to address. Apple isn't saying, of course.

I think cmosquera's suggestion is probably a good one, in light of his success with the same mouse.

Thanks for all of the responses.

I went to Best Buy the other day with the Notebook 5000 mouse in-hand. I paired it with a 3 different MacBooks and 2 different iMacs. The mouse performed exactly as it does on my machine. After returning home I re-installed Steermouse and tweaked the settings a number of times. The mouse tracking isn't as smooth as the full size 6000, but it is usable at this point.

After doing a lot of online reading it seems that a lot of Bluetooth mouse users find the tracking to be a tad erratic compared to a USB wireless version. I find it strange that the 5000 tracks beautifully when paired to a Lenovo SL500.

Thanks again.

Just wanted to throw in my experience. I had a Mac Mini 1.8 2008 model and a Macbook Pro late 2006 model. I had 1 Microsoft Bluetooth 5000 mouse primarily for my Macbook and I loved it. Worked flawlessly. I started using it on my Mini because I liked it better than my Mighty Mouse, and it also worked flawlessly. So I bought another one just for the Mini.

I upgraded my Mini to the 2009 model and the cursor was chunky and had a stuttered response. I tried both mice on the Mini and the Macbook, both worked perfectly on the Macbook, and terribly on the Mini. Both had the same version OS.

I noticed through troubleshooting that when I restarted the machine, it was smooth, but then bacame stuttered in movement. It seemed when I turned off my wireless keyboard, aluminum version, the smoothness returned, but not every time. So I tried pairing my keyboard and mouse to my macbook and they worked just fine.

All signs point to the hardware/firmware. However, there are no problems with my wireless Mighty Mouse on the Mini.
