my external hard drive is not cooperating with itunes

i recently moved all of my music to an external hard drive. now very little of it is linked.
in the EASIEST way possible, can someone explain to me how to relink them with out manually one by one, 'locating' them.
please pretend i am using a PC for the 1st time in explaining it to me. i have tried reading and understanding other discussions and i am afraid to mess something up!
thanks!!

Well, if you have exported your library, edit it. If you haven't, export it and keep this in mind for next time. But first, you should group your music together. Consolidate your library.

Let iTunes to manage your files for you. They NEED TO BE TOGETHER in order to do this EASILY. Then click "File", from there, "Library", and then "Export Library". Also export any playlists that you want to. Then;

Move your files to your other computer, keep structure the same. If your music is still on the same drive and same folder, then you just need to import your library back. Click "File" -> "Library" -> "Import Playlist"

If your files were (for example) on D:\Music and now on H:\Media\Music, then you need to open your exported XML file with Wordpad. From there, click CTRL+H, and replace this string "/D:/Music/" with this "/H:/Media/Music/" without quotation marks. Now you can import your library, as you've changed the paths already. Your drive letters & folders can differ, so change those by looking at example ones respectively.

Remove all of your songs and add them again to avoid double-songs. Your exported XML file contains all information that you need, from rating to play count, everything that you can see on your iTunes. With just replacing, you can move your library to anywhere you want.

Hope this helps at any point.
