Hi, just want to share that so far all is well after my updating to 3.0.1 OS!!! Do not have any problems whatsoever that have been posted in the forum, in actual fact I am serving this forum with my iPhone 3GS!
There are no fixes (if you are referring to apps etc)... just a security patch added to prevent someone hacking into your iPhone using a crafty sms. Any fixes to reported bugs are likely to come in a 3.1.1. update.
I have to say after I did the update, I noticed a rather quick battery drain. I hadn't used my phone much during the day and was at about 97% (again mostly standby), but I went into the app store and did some browsing and within the hour I found I was down to 72%!! No wi-fi, brightness was down a little past half way, no push, yada yada yada. I did a restore to backup and didn't see much of a change , then a restore as a new phone. Then to be on the safe side, I decided to check with the genious and have him check the battery on my phone and said he didn't see anything out of sorts. I have to say the battery is back pretty much to normal.
I just thought I would add my experiences to this list, in case they help anyone else having this problem.
Like most people, as soon as iTune attempted an OS upgrade to 3.0.1 - my iPhone 3G became a brick and then stayed continually in the "Maintenance mode -> Restore" loop. I tried pretty much everything that I had found in this discussions well into the night but to no avail.
This morning I thought that I would give it one more go...and although I have no proof that what I did differently caused the update to work...it is worth while letting you know.
This morning, before attempting the upgrade, I REMOVED MY SIM from the iPhone. This is the only thing I did differently today.
Then I started iTunes and, whilst holding down the "home" button (yes...I had tried this last night too...but did not work), I connected the iPhone to my PC and waited until the warning message about the maintenance mode came up...then I released the "home" button.
I then clicked on the restore button and.....it all worked!
Once The update had all worked, I re-inserted my SIM and then restored some of the data from my last backup.
So..as I said, no guarantees...but removing the SIM for the duration of the update seemed to do the trick.
