well, all those boring connections could be better if they warn the customer of what and why they are connecting to your computer.
But now, it's just "we do it, dot. "
after reading the tread given here, I agree with the consummer : I have not buy windows, and I want to be told why a foreign IP is getting information from my mac.
Until that, just in case, I disabble it. this should be explained in mac help.
verisign is a well know company, but that didn't say anything.

Most users simply don't care. Anytime you use the internet, information is being collected about you and from your computer. That's just a fact. If you want to be warned of everything, be prepared to spend your whole day reviewing the warnings. Or, just don't use the internet. Or a computer. May I recommend a nice abacus?

--> Neuroanatomist:
I know that the web change, since 1996 I used it and have seen a lot of evolution. As a lot of people I was against cookies when Netscape introduce them, for ex.

Can you imagine Neuroanatomist that the web was already really good when cookies didn't exist ?

Internet collect the information you let it collect, only that. But for a lot of reasons, no explanations are given and all is done to let people give informations without knowing that. referer, browser, resolution, cookies are all things people should be aware , when they begin internet.
Sorry, but I don't give referer, don't allow cookies except for some sites, don't give my os or browser identity, and don't have any personal information on my computer, that include my name. It could be easy anyway to trace me, just with anonymous connections made by softaware. Little snitch is a great tool for that, as those connections aren't blocked by OS X firawall or others.
I'm ok to let verisign, but I want to know it before, I'm a consummer, I have some right to have information 😉
I agree with you that it's a pain sometime to try to verify . I have also my lazy moments... 😉 so I say no to all, which may not be a good solution, btw, I never show a credit card on the net, so...
But have in mind that I have seen coming to life all of these attempt to get informations from an user.. In 1999 may be, a whole buzz was coming because micro$oft OS was getting information from all computers running 98.. like everyone try to get now, Apple included

--> JoeyR
I agree partially with you : this is a part of Safari, and should be have a line on the help, as on the firefox help .The only problem is that software companys, oR Verisign, who is a leader, didn't even think about it ...
Btw, except with Little snitch, which soft told you about what goes out of your computer. As I said, a firewall will not block these connections.
So , I understand Gio22 topic here, because he can't find an answer in the help, but he should have the information , btw, it could be a good advertising for verisign.
the same occurs for Firefox and others.

So, I like Safari, but I prefer iCab for a lot of features it gave us for privacy

+*btw, I never show a credit card on the net*+

Actually, quite a few people feel that way. Interestingly, credit card fraud is done much more often as a result of using a credit card at a physical location (restaurant, store, etc). These are places where someone actually holds your card and can take down the information from it. For most large and reputable online retailers, no human is ever involved in processing the credit card transaction. People who are afraid to use their credit card online very often don't think twice about it when they go to a little restaurant or store that they have never been to or know nothing about.

Of course you'd like to keep your private information private... Again... people will take extraordinary steps to limit what their computers send to where, but your credit card company is selling much more information (and much more sensitive information) about you to anyone with enough money to pay for it. If you are going to live in a modern world, there really just isn't any way to completely isolate yourself. You would have to work for someone that would pay you under the table in cash (so none of your information is aggregated by your respective governments)... You would have to pay for everything with cash (having a banking account would automatically make your information available to other organizations)... You would have to find some way to pay all of your bills with cash (money orders / cashiers checks would work for that)... You could never go to a doctor or hospital (as you would need to provide them with tons of personal information)... you could never have health insurance (as you would need to provide the insurer with even more information... in the case of countries with universal healthcare... they would still have your complete health records). There really is very little that you can do in reality (without seriously restricting your lifestyle) to keep your most private information private... someone knowing what websites you may have visited shouldn't really be a big concern.

Not just the small stores, actually, and 'hands on' is not required. Remember the TJX breach a couple of years ago? ~45 million people affected - that was from their database of credit/debit card transactions in their retail outlets (Marshalls, TJ Maxx, HomeGoods, etc.).

So, maybe more than just an abacus. Move to a cave in Alaska, off the grid. Berries are tasty, and bears are very bad at identity theft.

I agree with all you said.
but:
I should have say first that I have NOT a credit card, for some reasons you give and also for one absolute: credit card make the seller give a commision to the Credit card company, and that credit card company make you pay for your credit card. In fact, all you pay with CC is some saving money for the banks, as it's all computerized.
Those CC should be free, or, should be paid by the bank, because it spare them a lot of working hours.
So, I pay by check, cash, moneytransfer (expensive) or wire transfer .
except with cash, I always know who get the money, on which account and it's not so expensive: the best is that I can't get 2 or 3 % discount from the merchant, because i'm not using a CC and he will not have to give these 2 or 3 % to the credit card company 😉

When you pay with a CC, your money is checked, with the disposible amount.
it's a direct link. A burglar can stole your 278.817 $ and no one more. 😉
or my 128$ ;-))))

with check, the only thing wich is checked is "can you make a check".
with wire transfer : is the money wanted, available ?

I don't want to hide or anything, I just don't agree when people want to make me pay for something who will made them earn money, because i believe that they should give it to me for free.

Sorry, JoeyR, I know that in some countries, not having a CB (CC) is quite being anormal.
I live very well without a credit card... there are a lot of possibility for a merchant to know if my check will be rejected or not.
I had a company, we didn't accepted CC, except if the consummer pay the 3 % that a card payment cost us.
I don't like financial Vampires.

You forgot a lot in your exemples: wire transfers, automatic transfers (for bills as electricity, water, etc.. but for sure we didn't live in the same country. Here, I don't need to have a cb to pay (for now, but it will come, unfortunately)
It is as my exemple with the cookies: can you imagine a world without a credit card ???? and, yes, that world exist, and, yes, credit card are not necessary for the financial system .
they are just an ADD-on, a cookie...
they made us pay for it, to spare their money.

thanks for your answer, it's a good discussion, and not so much out of topic, as it is all about our privacy and the way some company are or are not concerned with this privacy.

p-s: anywhere you go to buy, ask for 3 % rebate if you pay cash or to pay the price with a credit card... let me know how it work... and what choose the merchant
