Audi and Bluetooth

I have the hands free bluetooth system in my Audi A3 and it was working fine with my older 2.5G iPhone(3.0 OS). I upgraded to the 3GS phone and ever since I have had problems with the bluetooth randomly disconnecting. When I turn the car on I get the 'BT on' chime and then randomly while driving it will go to 'BT off' and then sometimes will turn back on but sometimes a restart of the car is necessary.

Has anyone else experienced this in an Audi or in any other vehicle?

thanks!

I have a Civic with hands free and am experiencing a similar issue with my 3Gs.
If I leave bluetooth enabled on the phone all the time, when I get in the car the phone will sync and then the connection will drop out. If I then try and use the phone, it is very sluggish and trying to turn bluetooth off often doesn't work. It will eventually say that BT is off, but if I check a minute or so later, it is actually still on. Trying to turn it off again seems to work. Sometimes the phone needs a reboot though.
If I only enable bluetooth each time I get in the car it seems to behave better. Problem is, I usually forget to turn it on 😟 Too used to my K750, which was flawless in this respect.
Wondering if I should ask for a replacement...

I tried resetting the pairing with the car numerous times and none of that worked in my case. Is that what you mean by reset?

What has worked so far is plugging the phone into a car adapter so that it is always charging while in the car. I dont normally do this as I dont really need the charge but I thought I would try it. I will monitor it and see if it continues to work.

Interesting. I have a 2009 Hyundai Sonata that has an iPod USB port and yet the music never gets through while the charger is on. If I use the MP3 port on the iPhone the music is fine through the stereo system, with or without the charger on. Very interesting. I know that this has nothing to do with "Bluetooth" but it is interesting, that I am having these port difficulties.

I am experiencing the same "intermittent" bluetooth issues with an Audi TT-S after upgrading from a 2G to a 3GS iPhone. Very frustrating.

I don't agree that this thread is "answered" or "solved". I having tried it to see if it helps in my case, but being forced to plug your iPhone into a charger in order to get reliable bluetooth connectivity defeats the purpose of bluetooth -- i.e., being able to keep your phone in your pocket or purse without having to plug it in!

My solution may not be for you. My car has no integrated BT capability (I opted not to include it when I replaced the stereo).

I use a visor-mounted BlueAnt Supertooth3. It worked with my original iPhone and equally well with my 3GS. It has an internal rechargeable battery which lasts 5-6 weeks on a charge and works whether my iPhone is in my belt case, on the tray between the two seats, and whether charging or not. Audio is ample at freeway speeds for both transmit and receive.

I went in and spoke to a Genius today and their diagnostics indicated that something was wrong with the BT / wireless chipset. They said that the error logs indicated lots of crashes, which would back up my sluggishness when trying to change bluetooth settings.
End result was a replacement iPhone - here's hoping that this one behaves.
