Control my Powerbook with External Midi Device? Hangtime?

I have an electronic percussion instrument (Roland SPD-20) which I record onto my Powerbook G4 via M-Audio Uno (usb). This is a MIDI connection.

Is there a way I can control my Powerbook (i.e. start, stop playing tracks on iTunes or Garageband) from this MIDI instrument?

During live performance, I would like to start and stop drum/percussion loops from my Powerbook by hitting the trigger pads on my SPD-20.

Hangtime... you seem very knowledgeble. Help?

Sadly I'm not very knowledgable when it comes to MIDI, but I don't think you can do what you want.

The closest thing I've seen is an external control surface called iControl, however it relies on changes that were made for GB2.

Not sure if this will work, was looking for stuff for Logic, but it's worth a try
