iphone 3gs update and car audio connection

awhile back i had a ipod cable run to the rear of my stock car radio as an auxilliary connection. with my iphone classic it will both play music through the connection and also charge the ipod.

then i got the first gen iphone and it did the same, connection to play and also charging.

3g iphone offerred me the ability to play music through the connection, but no longer charged the iphone. i can live with that ill charge it at home and at work.

3gs - same thing. plays music, no charging. BUT - after the newest 3gs update, i no longer have the ability to even play music through the aux connection.

has anyone had any experience with this issue? if its just as simple as "yeah that doesnt work anymore with the new update" i guess ill be on my way. im just sort of curious as to why or any background or similar issues, is there a way to fix this, etc.

any help would be greatly appreciated. while im here im gonna look around a bit, it seems like theres a good deal of information on this forum.

Occasionally, our friends over at Apple. like to throw out a curve ball. The one that's most recently affected those of us in the 12-volt industry is their decision to switch from 12v Firewire battery charging to 5v USB on the new iPhone (3G), iPod touch (2G) and iPod Nano (4G). To solve the battery charging dilemmas this change caused, Peripheral (iSimple) has created two new charging adapters: the iS710 and iS712. The iS710 (ReVolt) is a plug-and-play adapter that allows your original iPod docking cable to charge the iPhone 3G, iPod iTouch 2G and iPod Nano 4G. Plus, the iS710 gives you the same quality of sound you’ve come to expect from iSimple. The iS710 is also backward compatible with older iPods. Purchase the iS710 to update your existing dock cable to support 5V charging on all iPods including the iPhone (3G), Nano (4G), Touch (2G). The iS710 will also extend your existing dock cable by 4ft.

* 4 foot cable allows junction to be hidden behind dash, out of sight, unlike other voltage adapters which are inflexible and awkward when plugged into an iPod.
* Converts traditional 12v iPod®/iPhone® charging interface to support 5v charging on all iPods
* Connects directly to existing iPod dock adapter
* Retains digital quality audio
* Compatible with many home or automotive iPod docking cables
* Compatible with select 2002-06 BMW iPod Interfaces.
* The iS710 cable is 4ft" long with a male 30-pin dock connector on one end and a female 30-pin dock connector on the other.

well this may address the charging issue, but currently i cant even hear the music through this connection so i would be paying 27 bucks to have a phone charger that connects through my stereo. i already own an accessory charger that i paid 10 bucks for.

3.0 i had charge and music connection, then with 3g i had ony music connection no charging, but now with 3gs i have none. i can charge my phone at home or with the acc charger, id simply like to be able to connect it to my stereo and use the ipod function.
