Wallpaper - Doesn't Change Every 5 Seconds

Regardless of how long I set it to change, my desktop wallpaper shows a blank, blue color as a wallpaper when I set a folder full of picture aliases. Is it not possible to use aliases when using the rotating feature? The picture aliases work only when I select a specific alias and but it won't change even if I check the "Change every..." checkbox.

Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Where are the pictures? Try copying only a few to a folder and using that folder for the desktop backgrounds. See if it works with the actual files.

The pictures are from various folders/dates in the iPhoto Library, but I used aliases instead of copying them, because there were many pictures and I didn't want to have copies of the some hundred files to save space.

I'm pretty sure it will work if I copy the images, but is it possible to use aliases?

EDIT: So multiple aliases can't be used for the "Change every..." feature, but aliases work only if I select one picture alias. Is this correct?

I see no reason as to why you can't link to the files inside the iPhoto library itself. As long as you remember you use those pictures, and don't change anything in the iPhoto library manually, it should work just fine...

and as V.K. stated above, you cannot use aliases.

that's not how you do it. make an album in iphoto (file menu->new album) and put any pictures you want to it. this doesn't create any extra copies and the pictures remain in their original events. then choose the album you made for desktop background rotation.
