iPhone forgets my Wifi Password

I have a Wifi network protected by a WEP key. Every now and then, the iPhone prompts me to enter the key - all works well for 24-48h then I get prompted to re-enter the key. Any fixes to ensure it is not forgotten?

I've seen that its when the WIFI Signal is in a strange or low level... Usually when I get the password box I will cancel it until I get closer...

Also I think that recently someone in my neighborhood has generated a WIFI station with the same name, therefore the iPhone looses the connection with my device and connects to thiers!

A good way to help ensure that this is not the case, is make sure that your Wireless router is named uniquely... Hope that helps...

Have you tried a WPA password protection scheme? It's much more secure and I've NEVER had a problem with my IP 3G or my new IP 3G S remembering my WPA password.

Excellent advice. My experience, too. I never have to re-enter my password, even on other networks I use once every couple of months.

I thought I would humor you and try your idea. Updated my Airport with WPA last night and this morning my iPhone had forgotten the password. What's strange is I was connected using the web and then instantly while surfing it forgot the password. I have 2 other computers constantly connected to my Airport, all indications point to the iPhone and the 3.0 update.

I too have been experiencing this exact same problem. However, for me, it did not just recently start happening...it goes back at least 9 months, shortly after I got the phone in Aug '08. And yes, this is very, very annoying!

Also, I cannot change from using WEP for router security at this point. I have too many other devices configured to use it and they cannot change. Those devices do not have any problems connecting to the network.

I have the same problem. The network used to remain above 'Other' but now disappears every time.

I'm using a Belkin 54g, WPA, with SSID hidden. Still works fine with PowerBook, iBook, and Apple TV.

This has been happening for about a week, perhaps since 3.1 (not an option in OS below!).

One thing that might have a bearing. Someone on an iPhone forum said they couldn't see how to enter a WEP or WPA password. In order to describe the steps, I needed to force mine to prompt for the password so I used the 'Forget' option. It's as if I can't make it "unforget"!

I think I might have an answer, found here.

Go to Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network and note any changes you've made to the default settings. For me it was just the APN (3 instances).

Then Settings > General > Reset (right at the bottom) > Reset Network Settings. You are prompted for your passcode then there's a confirmation button.

I had to reinstate my APN settings, as expected. I've reconnected to my wifi and *so far* it's not forgetting it. 😀
