Mail.app --> mutt

Hi,
I have loads of e-mails in ~/Library/Mail which refuse to display in Mail.app. The message is ..

+The message from John Smith <johnsmith@mydomain.com> concerning “some subject” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it+

'thing is, the account is online. And the mails are in my Mail folder, as if I navigate there with the Finder, I can open e-mails (they open in Mail.app) which display the above message, if I try to access them directly from within Mail.app.

So I've had enough, and would like to get mutt onto my Mac and use that, instead.

Getting mutt and installing it will be trivial, but is there any way I'm going to be able to get it to access all of my mails that are in ~/Library/Mail ?

Anyone done this? Tips?

Thanks.

Well that's a shame, but I imagine there are at least a few better places out there for people to get support for mutt seeing as how it's not a product Apple ships.

Fair point. But few of those places are going to be able to advise me if it's possible to export my Mail.app stuff, and get mutt (or [al]pine, for that matter) to see it and manipulate it correctly.

You can either direct mutt (via its configuration) to the same mail folder, or else you can create a symbolic link.

There are two types of unix mail files, mbox (works with pine, alpine, old OSX Mail.app, etc) and MH format, which is what the current Mail.app uses, so you will want something that works with that. Sylpheed (I installed it with fink) does quite well. If you install my glossy-p package in fink, you can even make it look aqua-like. Mutt allows for both formats. I have never used it. It claims to be highly configurable via the .muttrc file. If you install it with fink it gives several examples.
