xxxx clips in my timeline

Can someone tell me why I have "xxxx in my clips when I drag them into the timeline, and why I can't just delete the audio from that clip without deleting the video as well...also in my canvas the clip is a tiny rectangle and does not fill up the whole screen....I apparently have accidentally hit a button to make it do this for my other projects are "normal". How can I set it to where the edit the audio and video seperately
thanks

You can unlink the audio and video in the Timeline by selecting (highlighting) the clip and hit Command l (lowercase L). If you don't want the audio there in the first place, don't edit it into the Timeline to begin with.

If your video does not fill the Canvas, it could be due to a few different things:

A. You're using video with smaller pixel dimensions that your Sequence settings
B. You've sized the Canvas window smaller than 'Fit to Window'
C. You've scaled the clip lower than 100%
