Fire Wire port replicator?

Fire Wire port replicator?

I have a 13" Mac. While it will take some doing, I plan to use Final Cut Express, and make some movies.

However, I am in a quandry--I have an ext. HD that is connected to the laptop, but I also need to connect my Sony DV camera to the lap top. Is there such thing as a Fire Wire port replicator? That would solve all of my problems! If there is such a device, please advise me where I can locate one!

If your external Firewire drive has two ports, connect the camera to one port and connect the other port to your Mac.

I would not recommend a FireWire hub for video. They are not up to the demands of video and in addition the 'auto-sense' feature most of them have interferes with the video stream from the camera to the Mac to the drive, often resulting in dropped frames and interrupted captures if not outright freezing of your system and the need to reboot.

ps Exactly what model Mac do you have ?
