Resume Templates?

Hi,

I haven't a clue where to find a good Resume Template for AppleWorks. I was really surprised AppleWorks had only 2.....the majority of the Template are useless to me. If at all possible.... to find any free ones. I don't know enough about Appleworks to make my own. I have spent the last 3 wks just getting my computer to work. Really could use a break..... any suggestion would be soooo appreciated.

Thank you for your time & help

It's not likely that AppleWorks can open any recent Word documents or templates. Sometime around 2005 Microsoft changed the format enough that the translators in AppleWorks 6 can no longer open them.

However, TextEdit can open current Word documents. I don't know if it can open Word templates with the .dot extension. If it can't, just change the file extension to .doc in Finder & TextEdit (or Pages) will be able to open it.

Hi Fruhulda,

I went to the link, you provided, THANK YOU!! I downloaded 3 resume no problem. Double clicked to open which (auto-activates MacLinkPlus?) opens in AppleWorks. "Rule_Resume.dot.doc (WP)" is sitting on my desktop with its Century Gothic font-size 16.

Do I "Save As" first b4 changing or can I type my info-change the fonts & size etc then "Save As"?

*The "Save As" dialog box*

1. Save As: Modern_Resume.dot.doc (Do I rename this as long as .doc is at the end?)

2. Templates folder: Templates is highlighted (is this where it will go?) Do I need to change to My Documents or should it stay in AppleWorks-Starting Point-Templates? Does it matter?

3. File Format: Word Mac 6 document (do I change this from drop-down menu?)

4. Document Bullet Button is blue (If I wanted to save as a Template would I change this here?)

I'm sorry for so many questions but I want to learn the correct way. I really really appreciate any help. Thank you again for your patience & time.

Doing the Save as (with a new name and the location you want for the file) immediately gets that task out of the way and ensures that the file is where you want it. After you've done that, Save periodically using command-S. AW will automatically put the file in the location where you first saved it.

1. Save As: Modern_Resume.dot.doc (Do I rename this as long as .doc is at the end?)

Keep the .doc ending only if you are saving it as an MS Word file. AppleWorks automatically adds a .cwk suffix to AppleWorks files (and .cws to AppleWorks Template (Stationery) files). I would suggest saving it as an AppleWorks file until the final version, then saving a copy of that in MS Word 97/2000/XP format or Printing the final version to a PDF file when you get to the final version.
2. Templates folder: Templates is highlighted (is this where it will go?) Do I need to change to My Documents or should it stay in AppleWorks-Starting Point-Templates? Does it matter?

The Templates folder should contain only AppleWorks Stationery (Template) files. Keep your document files in a set of folders in your home folder. You could use your Documents folder, but this folder is used by applications (eg. AppleWorks, Adobe Reader, Mozilla, etc.) for documents they create. To avoid disturbing that, I keep my own documents in other folders that I have created.

3. File Format: Word Mac 6 document (do I change this from drop-down menu?)

See 1. above.

4. Document Bullet Button is blue (If I wanted to save as a Template would I change this here?)

You would. AppleWorks would then automatically navigate to the Templates folder, and would apply the .cws suffix to the file name. The file would be an AppleWorks template.

No problem. Questions is what this forum is about.
