Normally if you delete a track from your library, you will be asked to confirm and if the track is in the iTunes Music folder you will be given the option to just remove it from the library or send it to the recycle bin. But I think there is a "do not ask me again checkbox" so you may not get the warning if you selected do not ask me again at any time in the past.

It works as polydorus describes, and it will delete *any tracks that are highlighted.*
