Downloading causes router to crash

When I try to download anything above 1 MB, the downloading fails and my router (to which I'm connected wirelessly) crashes. Can anyone help with this.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.7)

Try resetting the Router and your ISP modem (DSL, Cable etc...).

Interesting that you should say that, as I have recently started having the same problem!

Prime suspect IS the router, but would you mind telling me what country you are in and who your ISP is?

Actually, it's the modem that crashes, not the router (my partner has the main computer, which is hardwired to the modem and router - he just informed me that it is the modem, not the router).

I'm in the England and my ISP is Virgin.

We do that, and then all is fine until I try to download again. Actually, I've just been told it's the modem, not the router, that crashes. My partner has the main computer, which is hardwired to the modem. He has no downloading problems.

Another point - my partner has no problems downloading on his computer - he has a PC.

Have you tried calling Virgin?

They have had lots of problems since they took over TeleWest.

Yes, we phoned Virgin, and they said, of course, that it is an Apple problem...

Actually, I downloaded OS 10.5.8 a couple of days ago and then downloaded two iTunes files successfully!

If your parter is hardwired t the modem then how is the router playing a part here?
How are you connected to the modem?

Well, they would say that!

Same response from BT broadband, but not until they had spent some time testing the line etc.

I also tried replacing the ethernet cable but no change.
