That is a loaded question - what is your WiFi connected to - how fast is the internet connection.

3G can be up to 1.5 Mb/sec - Wifi is 12 or 40 (B or G), but if your wifi is connected to dial up, your internet speed would be 56K - although you would get up to 40Mb/sec on your LAN.

Generally people have DSL or Cable internet which is faster then 3G, so WiFi connected to Cable/DSL will always be faster. It could be up to 10 times faster then 3G, BUT the iPhone browser speed may make it seem like less.

Well, my home wifi is faster, but last week I was in a hotel where the wifi network was actually slower than 3G, tethering my MBP to my iphone on 3G was actually faster than using the hotel's network.

hehe i know what you mean... yesterday at a mcdonalds the wifi there was getting 300k... while the 3g was getting 2300k 😀

That's the speed of the DSL line...not the router. We all know that 802.11a/g/n are faster than 700kbps. Hence why the answer to his/her question is...Wifi is faster.

Yes, but if your phone is connected to the Internet via that router and a 700 kbps connection your speed accessing the Internet from the phone will be 700 kbps, half the speed of 3G. The fact that the connection between the router and the phone is 50 MBPS will not help your Internet access.

WiFi uses less battery. So if you are doing a lot of surfing, you will get longer battery with WiFi.

The cellular radio is the biggest battery drain - especially on 3G.

None of you guys has mentioned the massive latency found in 3G connections (or cellular in general). So, in theory if you had a Wifi connection with an uncontended 1.5Mb/S connection and compared it with a 3G connection running at 1.5Mb/S the Wifi would be faster.
