Insufficient memory

Hope someone can help me with this as its something I have never seen.

Was working at a friend of mines iMac and I wanted to open a very small Excel file (26Kb), no other programs were running, all OSX software updated etc. But when I tried to open it, I got a Insufficient memory window pop-up. Did all the typical things of restarting etc, but still could not got the **** thing to open.

Where can I check exactly the amount of memory being used at any one time? and does anyone have an idea what could be causing this? I have never seen this issue on such a small file.

Any help would be very welcome

Thanks in advance

iMac 20, 2gb memory, Mac OS X (10.5.2)

Hi all,

Thanks very much for the time youve taken to reply, I really do appreciate it. The problem is solved now. I would love to take the credit for solving it or even gives you guys the credit, but the truth is, is that is just kind of starting working on its own again.

Now I have another problem (about the mail program), but that has to go in another section I guess.

Thanks once again to you all
