iTunes flooding proxy server with connections

Is there a way to stop iTunes from constantly trying to login to the iTunes Store? We currently allow our users the ability to run iTunes to listen to music at work and/or sync their iPods, but don't allow them to connect to the iTunes store (blocked via proxy) ... iTunes however is constantly trying to connect to the store, sending thousands of login requests to Active Directory for Proxy authentication. Please tell me there is an option somewhere so we don't have to take away everyone's iTunes.

Have you thought about putting an entry in the hosts file, a similar trick to what spybot does to prevent access to risky sites.
It used to be:
127.0.0.1 phobos.apple.com

But I think the store domains are now:
itunes.apple.com
ax.itunes.apple.com
albert.apple.com

According to this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3501

I haven't tried this myself. 🙂
