iphone 3gs as a wifi network

i heard that you can use your ipone 3gs to create a wireless network that which you can join with another device and you'll be connected to the internet... if so how is it done?

macbook, Mac OS X (10.5.7)

The iphone can connect to a wi-fi network, just as a laptop can.

It does not create a wi-fi network.

Sorry, but you heard wrong.

You cannot use an iPhone as a wireless or wi-fi router.

It is possible to tether an iPhone with a computer - using the iPhone's cellular internet connection for connecting a computer to the internet that is connected to the iPhone via USB or Bluetooth. Every carrier for the iPhone does not support tethering. AT&T will be supporting tethering for the iPhone sometime this year - more than likely at an additional monthly cost for a tethering plan.
