Sony GV-HD700 as an external monitor using DVI to HDMI
I recently purchased a GV-HD700 to use as a deck for FCP Studio 7 to ingest DVD mini tapes. I am able to ingest footage without any problems, yet not without some reduced features. My question is this: can I attach a DVI to HDMI cable to my Sony deck and use the decks HD LCD monitor to view playback from my Macbook Pro? I know the HDMI port on the Sony can export to a large screen HDV Television, but can it import video for viewing on its screen? Using the firewire cable between the Mac and the Sony does not work. Thank for any suggestions..
iMac 24" 2.33 intel,
Mac OS X (10.4.8),
Macbook Pro
Nope. Because the HDMI IN on that deck is expecting a 1920x1080 signal. Your computer does not output that ratio via DVI. And you can't use the deck via Firewire either...the HDV signal type doesn't allow it.
Thanks Shane, I was hoping for a solution and the external monitor on the Sony dose not seem like it. I still can use an external 19 inch LCD as the external at home on my desktop, but I was hoping for something more portable for the Macbook Pro on the road. Will search for another solution. Thanks for the info.
The Matrox MXO2 Mini is MIGHTY portable. Small, light, and attaches to your laptop via Express34. Component, composite and HDMI in and out. Great little box, and only $499.
