ACL - Access Control List

Hi everyone,

Anybody have thoughts or ideas how I can lock out my son from staying up till 6:00a.m. playing PC games? When using a Linksys or D-Link, we can easily set up Access Control lists based on IP or MAC address (which I prefer). We can have schedules to knock these machines off of the Internet. This is not so easy or obvious on the AEBS. I have read numerous post around using a public free DNS service but I am not comfortable with an external resource when I wish to control it internally.

Any help or suggestion is appreciated.

Welcome to the discussions!

Open AirPort Utility, click Manual Setup
Click the Access tab below the row of icons
On MAC Access Control, select Timed Access and follow the prompts.

I've thoroughly checked out that section and unless his connection is wifi I cannot limit his "on-time". I was also thinking that perhaps I could have the AEBS do nightly scheduled shutdowns and morning "wake ups". Any ideas?

The Extreme does not have the capabilities that you are looking for.

Noticed this recently. You might want to investigate this and similar items. Try a google search for something like "limit connection time on the internet"

Hmm, what if I went about it in a completely different fashion. Could I use a Linksys as a main router and have the AEBS as an Access Point? If so would I use the "join a network" function?

This way, I know that the Linksys has Access Control functionality while the AEBS has killer wifi.

Yes you could use the Linksys that way.

It worked. Kind of like scratching your left ear with your right hand. Had to turn wifi off of the Linksys to use the AEBS as an access point. Had to remember to connect in an e-port versus the wan port. Had to assign a static IP to the AEBS nd it all seems to work.

Any thoughts? Did I miss a step?
