Need to go back to QT 6.5

I am trying to figure out how to swith back to a 8.5 ver of QT (or somewhere in that vicinity). QT 7 is not supported by my video edit system for exporting to .mov.

Everytime I try to run one of the reinstall QT programs, it won't let me do the reinstall. I have trashed the QT reciepts and tried to new a new 6.5 install and it says I have a newer version already installed.

What do I do?

Thanks for the help.

I am in the exact same situation. Opps, in my original post I wrote QT 8.5...I of course met 6.5. Well, if I find a solution, I wil be sure to reply back. Please do the same for me, if you figure out what to do.

Thanks.

(I have deleted so many QT receipts no thinking it would allow the resinstall, I am wondering if I have created even more problems for myself)??

Download Pacifist from Version Tracker and start it up. Drop the QT 7.0.1 reinstaller package onto Pacifists window, select the installer package (not a subfolder) in the contents list and click "install". As the query windows pop up asking you what to do about existing files choose "Update" whenever it is available, and choose "Replace" when Update is not an option. This will revert you back to QT 7.0.1 and you can then run the 6.5 reinstaller. 🙂

Not sure how I did it, but I at least was able to reinstall QT 7.0.3. I had it installed and then when I deleted it I could not install any version. I even tried getting rid of the receipt and still no go. But for some reason, I tried it again and it worked. SO I am running that version....but with that, I can not export a .mov file from Avid XP Pro.

Guess I need to try your suggestion to try and find my way back to 6.5. Thanks.

Francis,

Thanks for the help...yes, I did try it. I get a message that it is not the correct version. From what I can see, I will have to get it back down to a 7.0.2, then I can use this to get back to the QT that works with my edit system.

I hope apple puts that file up soon (going from 7.0.3 back down...seems like there are a lot of compatability issues right now.

Thanks for the help and the suggestion.

Hi Mike,

May be you already did it, may be not, ... if you didn't , why not try to trash all files which are present on your HD for which the file name contains QuickTime or QTime,
Especially make a search in the main Library, in the Library located inside the OSX System folder, in the System folder itself, so everywhere each time you find a file related to QuickTime you trash it , any kind of file which is related to the applications, preferences files, Applications, Plug-Ins, documents, support documents, extensions and so on, packages...
=> all in the trash .
Repair Permissions,
And then try to install QT 6.5.2 ... (or QT 7.01 and then the 6.5.2 re-installer)

Hi Mike,

In case you are still facing the problem, I just saw
this : QuickTime 7.0.1
Reinstaller for QuickTime 7.0.3
, which will
remove QT7.03 and replace it by QT 7.01 and therefore
will allow you to reinstall QT6.5.2... by using the
link I gave above.

hope that helps

Francis

Well, Thank you very much indeed Francis. Don't know what I would have done without your tip. Happy New Year, Terry
