I had to perform a 'reset' on Saturday and am restoring all of my settings as I go.

I am experiencing the same issue with my Contacts doubling up. Also, the August Calendar entries I made using my MacBook are not showing up on my iPhone. Good thing I'm carrying my MacBook with me this week while traveling b/c I don't have a record of my client meetings. This is VERY annoying. Any suggestions?

We hit the same problem with double contacts. We reset the iPhone and that, of course, got rid of the problem. But that's not a good solution. I'd like to see Apple put the contacts application on the iPhone desktop just like on the MacBook and FIX THIS DOUBLE CONTACTS PROBLEM which (I think) happens when you tether your iPhone to your MacBook and then also allow the iPhone to sync using Wi-Fi or G3 network connections.

I am having the same issue since I upgraded to 3.1. It appears that Apple has added the option of choosing "groups" or "calendars" from either 1)your iphone, 2)mobile me, or 3)all. When I choose just my phone or mobile me I only see since entries. However, when I choose "all" then every entry is doubled. Could this be the issue you are having? There is a new button at the upper left of the screen when in the calendar or contacts that I just noticed. This is where you select one of the 3 previously mentioned option. Hope this helps, but I really don't know why this option exists and it is very annoying.

I am having the same issue of doubled up calendar entries and doubled up contacts. If i choose to just show mobileme, then i get one set of each. when you choose "show all calendars", or "show all contacts" you get doubled up. Does anyone know how to get the sync from iMac to iPhone with single entry contacts and calendars so you don't get even the option of doubles?

I had this problem for the longest time, well since some major software update a while ago.

I finally cleared it up. I deleted the iPhone backups in the home Library/Application Support/MobileSync folder and then restored my iPhone. All iPhone app settings were lost, but the address book duplicates went away.

I've had the iPhone since they first went on sale and the transition from .Mac to MobileMe with the added phone features seems to have triggered the confusion. It was manageable with the ability to limit the source of data (MobileMe and Address Book). I hesitated for the longest time to delete my iPhone backups, but it worked.

Your mileage may vary.

Since you have a MobileMe account, are you syncing contacts and calendar events over the air with your MobileMe account on your iPhone and syncing direct with the Address Book and iCal on your Mac via the iTunes sync process?

If so, your contacts and calendar events will be doubled on your iPhone.

Prior to firmware version 3.0, you could sync contacts and calendar events over the air with a MobileMe account and/or with an Exchange account, or direct with the supported application on your computer. You could do one or the other, not both at the same time.

Beginning with firmware version 3.0, Apple added the ability to do both - primarily for those with an Exchange account who also want to sync personal contacts and calendar events with their iPhone in addition to business contacts and calendar events over the air.

The only thing this does with a MobileMe account when syncing contacts and calendar events over the air is duplicate the contacts and calendar events on the iPhone.

I must be missing something. I have multiple entries for the same contacts on both my iPhone and MobileMe Contacts. This discussion is not clear to me as to what steps to take. Updating my OS has not cleared up the problem.

I read in another discussion titled Duplicate Contacts and Calendars ( http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2170234&tstart=15 ) a similar problem but including Exchange. I've tried those directions and no luck.

I'm sure I'm just confused.

Can someone spell out clear concise directions, step by step on how to eliminate duplicates on both my iPhone and MobileMe? Then I can go on to figure out how two completely different contacts merged to share information. A C contact merged with an M contact to have M's name, C's numbers and C's contact photo!

Oh and then I'll move on to the fact that desk top iCal and Contacts don't sync with MobileMe like it was explained they would.
